What is Fostering?

Fostering is caring for a child in your own home at a time when his or her parents or family are unable to do so.

Children and young people can be placed in foster care for many different reasons, it may be that the child has been abused or neglected or simply that the parents are going through a difficult period. The reason is rarely related to the child and ultimately, many children will return to their birth families and their own communities.

A brief summary of our role in the fostering process

Moments Fostering recruits people to become foster carers. We provide all the training and an assessment at no cost to them and then pass them as foster carers in front of an independent panel. We then provide and pay the family to care for foster placements (from local authorities) and supervise those placements throughout the life of that placement which can be anything from 1 day to 18 years. We offer services for placements such as short term, long term fostering, bridging to adoption, sibling groups and remand care all from 0-18 years.

Foster Carer's role and general information

Foster carers provide the stable family environment that is needed by children and young people. We accept foster carers who are single, married, just living as a couple and people in same sex relationships. If you are new to fostering or have experience we want to hear from you! The process of becoming a new foster carer with our agency can take up to 6 months and is described in more detail on the homepage.

It is an expectation that the main carer does not work so that they are available to care for the child or young person that is placed with them. Part-time work will be taken into consideration, depending on working hours and situation.

Our fees are very competitive. Regarding tax, all our foster carers are self employed and it is your responsibility to let the Inland Revenue know. Foster carers receive favourable tax treatment on income derived solely from fostering via fostering fees.
